Doll-A-Day 184: Skipper Saturday: Brunette Bend Leg Skipper

Welcome to another Skipper Saturday. Today's doll is a brunette bend leg Skipper.

Bend leg Skippers were produced from 1965 to 1967, until they were replaced by the Twist and Turn bend leg Skipper.

We haven't seen The One Hair for awhile, but it never really dies, does it?

Bend leg Skippers came in blonde, brunette, or titian (red head).

The first bend leg Skippers were 'tan skinned' (which actually looks kind of gray to me.) They were later available in a pink skin tone.

Bend Leg Skippers always seem to have this problem with their bangs: they won't lay down properly! They are too thickly rooted or something.

Sometimes they look like a thatched roof. This one isn't as bad as some I have!

Today's doll is wearing the Skipper fashion Cookie Time, from 1965-66.
The dress fits better on the narrower hips of a straight leg Skipper. That's why the (sewn on) belt keeps riding up.

Cookie Time consists of the dress, red flats, a wooden rolling pin,box of 'cookie mix', a metal mixing spoon, a silver tone plastic cooking pot, and a flat cardboard 'book', Barbie's Easy as Pie" cookbook.

A word of advice about Cookie Time: If you feel the need to wash the dress, don't worry about that red belt bleeding onto the dress. It won't happen. However, those buttons will turn the white part red! I'm not sure if it's the buttons or the thread they're sewn with. It's been a while since I made that mistake. But you will want to definitely think about removing those buttons and putting them back on after the washing.

Maybe it's both. Those buttons definitely faded in the wash.

That's all for today. We're having a bit of a family day tomorrow to celebrate my aunt's 83rd birthday, so I will try to post a doll tomorrow night, but no promises!
